In this chapter, we will study the conjunctive phrases. These are phrases formed with conjunctions of subordination and which link two or more clauses. There are so many conjunctive phrases that it would be hard to study them all. That’s why we selected the most common ones to study in this chapter.
In today’s lesson we will study the following conjunctive phrases: à moins que, au cas où, au point que, aussi bien que, aussitôt que.
à moins que
“à moins que” means “unless”. It expresses condition. It is usually followed with a verb in a subjunctive mode preceded with “ne” which is not to be confused with the negative form “ne pas”. According to most grammarians, the use of “ne” is optional; even though, it seems that it is more common.
